We have survived a year here at the Butterfly Children's Hospice, 35 babies have been admitted, some are now awaiting adoption and 2 now live in Changsha, so not all the babies die! WOW see www.butterflych.org before you visit us!

So far, opened on 8th April, have had 8 babies/children. I 8yo boy died after 9 days, I 4yo girl died after 12 hours. We feel saddened at some state of these kidz arrive to us in, in the west if we kept animals like this we would be jailed, but here it’s OK! "Harry" died at 2am, peacefully, The girl “Hope´ I felt so sorry for, when she arrived the nurse's (American volunteers) assessed her, saying she would not last long, so I sat with her holding her hand, we were not willing for her to die alone, so I said I would sit until 10pm then other volunteers would sit overnight, but at 20:50 she was so peaceful and she breathed her last! I said a prayer and shed a tear! I am happy to know everything we gave up to be here and do this was worth it. Today is a new day and we will press on making a difference to another little life.

These two flew out last night to a new home, we were thankful that we were able to play our small part.

This little girl abandoned at the age of 6, she is ill and will not make old bones and is weak, we were invited to do something for her at the Orphanage. They just keep her, fed and slept, nothing else. So because the Butterfly home is not ready www.chinakidz.org and she needs love and care we decided to take her home, so we have official paperwork and will look after her until she dies....

Some thoughts from Alan

As you know, Lyn & I live in China and enjoy being there, often I long to be at home with my family and friends.

When my sister, Wendy, and I were very young, we were abandoned together and spent our childhood and youth in various children’s homes, sometimes together, sometimes apart.

I would just love now to be able to spend 1 day a week when we could chat, have meals together and have fun.

I didn’t see Adam, my youngest grandson until he was 16 months old; I left to go live in China when Owen was 6 weeks old, now he is 3. I have missed my granddaughter’s transition from adolescent to young woman.

Like most human beings - I need and miss family.

I would love to spend time with them and be a pest to my friends, sharing meals, watching cricket, living life.

Now – imagine you are in China and you have a new baby. WAIT – there’s a problem.

The doctors have told you the baby is ‘no good’ and will die, great expense may be involved if you want to try and save it.

You feel ashamed,; it’s your fault; you must have done something bad in your life for this to happen. It’s a punishment.

You can’t take this baby home. Death in the family home is so bad and brings bad luck, bad spirits. You have no money to ‘fix’ this baby who was so wanted and looks so innocent. What can you do?

Do you leave it in a hedge

Do you flush it away

Do you risk imprisonment by abandoning it?

Do you feel the pain – this happens in modern China today.

When I was in alone and in need as a child, someone picked me up, someone fed me, someone even loved me at times.

Now – It’s my turn to give, I want to make a difference to someone. I want loving arms to pick up and hold, feed and love these little ones, I want to help the parents keep their sick babies.

Will you consider committing to partner with us? There are many ways you can be a ChinaKidz partner.

You can give:

Your time – we need trustees, fundraisers, administrative support

Your skills – for example – web design/maintenance, accountancy, be a volunteer in China

Your encouragement – write to us, it’s lonely sometimes

Your money – as a one off or better still – commit a regular sum each month for a year, that keeps us going.

I’d like you to have fun in your life, but keep the thought in the back of your minds that without you, Lyn & I are just like those Chinese parents, helpless and with little or no hope.

On my visit today another little one arrives, looking shell shocked! 6 year old little girl, she has been diagnosed with a life limiting illness. She may live another 6 months, her poor parents could'nt take that news so left her. How sad!! :{

These two little ones HIV positive need a home, at the moment they live isolated and everyone only does the basics, clean and feed. No cuddles! so I go and spend a little time with them everyday,

please make people aware there must be someone who is desperate for love.

Today we visited the medical floor of the orphanage, the need is very great! we found a boy and what looks like his sister both with HIV, because of this they get very little attention as staff are afraid! We need to get these bab ies out so please tell us who can help. Lots of children need us and we work with the ones who are dying.

Today one step in one step out

Another meeting with the officials, one step forward and one step back! dont worry its normal here. We are trying to get to agree that we will use half the building this phase and use the other half in phase two, but before wen commit to phase one we want to agree that we will have use of the building for phase two, they say we will think about this at the time!

Good news is that we are made welcome and we feel we are getting nearer, so tomorrow (Wednesday) another meeting at 08:30, (I am out tonight for a beer) We will se how we go

Help is always needed, children who have any kind of medical need are in danger of not getting what they need, why? because it may be beyond the perents budget. Imagine your child being in need of medical attention, you go to the Dr. They say give me a years salary and we will try! You know they may try, but because of the poor training and skills they have they may practice on your child, having never seen the condition before!
